Deep Lomi

It all begins with Deep Lomi Massage…

The underlying technique and intention for all of our bodywork is Deep Lomi Massage which was created by our founder, Joe Lavin. He developed this style by studying and using the relaxing full-body Hawaiian Lomi styles as a base for his work and then integrating the best massage techniques from all over the world. This includes traditional Thai Massage and Thai Yoga as well as techniques from various sports massage and relaxation response modalities.

The result is something truly magical that has to be experienced to be believed…

Integrative

In our Deep Lomi sessions we use our hands, forearms, elbows, triceps and even our shoulders to facilitate extremely long and luxurious full-body strokes that integrate the entire body and do not force us to work on specific areas in isolation of others. Your body doesn’t function as a sum of its parts, so we treat it as wholly as we can, unifying movements that traditional Western massage keeps separate.

Profound

Deep Lomi Massage is profoundly relaxing, and at the same time, gets deep into the muscles. Each massage is tailored to the individual client so that you can get to the depth you want at that moment. Therefore, no two massages are the same, even with the same client. Every massage becomes better than the last, so you always have the best massage you’ve ever had.

Ultra Relaxing

Deep Lomi Massage is designed to make your relaxation so complete that you surrender physically, mentally and emotionally. This full surrender allows your body to move beyond the limits that it would otherwise adhere to, which allows for more healing on multiple levels. Anticipation is replaced with acceptance, muscle guarding is greatly reduced, if not eliminated, stress and anxiety melt away. You walk away feeling totally unwound in the best way.

Effective

Deep Lomi Massage has several profound effects on the neuromuscular system; decreasing muscle tension and spasm, increasing range of motion in the joints, and breaking the neuro-physical and neuro-emotional patterns that we tend to hold on so tightly to but that our body reads as stress. With Deep Lomi we do not have to traumatize your body to get the results that you want- deep tissue work can be completely relaxing, and when it is, both your entire being will be better off, not just your muscles. Let us show you how.

DEEP LOMI MASSAGE FAQS

Here are some of the more frequently asked questions regarding Deep Lomi Massage. If you do not see your questions below, send us an email and we will answer them for you.

DRAPING/MODESTY

The draping for Deep Lomi is less modest than the draping that most conventional western massage therapists are using. There are two basic types of draping for Deep Lomi that you can choose from (a sheet or towels) and then 100 ways to modify them to make sure you are comfortable and your modesty is intact.

Deep Lomi is best when the client wears no undergarments so that the practitioner can work from the neck to the ankles and back up again in one long, continuous stroke. This is because a Deep Lomi practitioner works with all of the body at the same time, not just specific areas in isolation. For example, when you are on your stomach, your back, sides of your glutes and your legs will be uncovered so the therapist can work all of them together. However, in all cases it is the client’s comfort that is most important, so we will adjust the draping to each client’s personal comfort level.

SESSION LENGTH

We recommend at least 90 minutes for a great, full-body massage, primarily because it is just too hard to do the full body justice in only an hour, and an extra 30 minutes really does make a difference. Warning: Once you have tried a 90 minutes session, it is very difficult to ever feel satisfied with a 60-minute session. In fact, many of our clients have moved on to enjoy full two-hour massages and some find that they need a three-hour massage/relaxation experience to feel complete.
